Using modern surgical techniques such as rib grafting, CT 3D modelling, image manipulation software, microvascular free tissue transfer, many of the complex nasal deformities can technically now be reconstructed.

It is important various criteria are met for patients to be surgical candidates.

The patient is physical fit and can undergo surgery.

1. The patient is well motivated. Repair of complex nasal deformity can in some cases take more than one surgery and therefore success requires a well motivated patient.
2. The patient has realistic expectations and is in agreement with the surgical plan and the likely achievable gains and the range of possible outcomes set out by the surgeon.
3. The patient is psychologically prepared for surgery and any complications that may arise. It is also important that the surgery is likely to produce a positive psychological outcome.
